Tsunami Drawing

A giant wave approaches the shore. A drawing by a Thai child of the Asian tsunami of 2004.

When I was in Thailand in 2005, just after the Asian tsunami disaster, I found an outdoor class of children near Khao Lak who were drawing pictures of their experiences during the tsunami. After weeks of seeing and photographing the aftermath of the waves, it was amazing to see artwork from people who had experienced it. This is the kind of image that inspired me to combine photography and children’s drawings, to do the Inside-Outside Project, and now Artivism.
